Emergency departments respond to 3-vehicle crash
PAGELAND, S.C. — High Point Fire, Pageland Rescue, and Lifeguard EMS responded to a 3-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 207 and Crow Burk Rd. Friday, July 5. Arriving on the scene, Engine 11 discovered a pickup truck, hauling a side by side on a trailer, had veered off the roadway following a collision with a black sedan, according to a press release from High Point Fire Department (HPFD). The side by side had detached from the trailer and overturned.
Woman arrested after ‘squatting’ two homes
Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a for third-degree burglary, trespassing and larceny after they determined she had “squatted” at two homes. Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan identified the woman as 45-year-old Christie L. Alexander, whose official address is on Yorkshire Drive in Lugoff. However, according to Boan, along with information provided on Facebook and in KCSO incident reports, Alexander made herself at home in another Lugoff residence and then one in Elgin.
Nicholson named assistant principal at Central
PAGELAND, S.C. — Joseph Earl Nicholson has been named an assistant principal at Central High School beginning with the 2024-2025 school year. Nicholson, a native of Richmond County and a graduate of Richmond Sr. High School, brings 28 years of educational experience from Richmond County, with 24 of those years dedicated to teaching at Richmond Sr. High, Richmond Early College, and Hamlet Middle School. Additionally, he gained four years of administrative experience as an assistant principal at Richmond 9th Grade Academy, Richmond Sr. High, and Hamlet Middle School.
Barnwell earns European Union scholarship
Kathleen Barnwell, the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell “Sonny” Smith, of Camden, recently became one of two University of South Carolina (USC) students named as 2024 recipients of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) scholarships, funded by the European Union. According to an article posted to USC’s website in April, the scholarship allows students from across the world to earn two master’s degrees in two years while studying in two or more European countries.
