● Bethune High School will hold its annual class reunion at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the former high school, 302 Norwood St. This will be followed by the town of Bethune’s annual Let Freedom Ring Celebration, also at the old high school, beginning at 5 p.m. There will be food, games, other fun, and fireworks.

An understudied story of Revolutionary Camden waits to be told — a chronological narrative of its fall to the British on June 1, 1780. This is part one of that story. As a result of Camden’s surrender to Gen. Charles, Earl Cornwallis, on that date, the governing authority over area people and property became that of the occupying British military, rather than that of Continental South Carolina and the would-be “united states.” For nearly a year, the British were garrisoned in full control of Camden before they withdrew to Charleston in the second week of May 1781.
