Sweet Spot on the Square holds grand opening
DARLINGTON, S.C. — The Sweet Spot on the Square in downtown Darlington celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday morning. Formerly called The Mercantile, the ice cream and coffee shop is owned by businessman Levon Rambo. In addition to a large variety of ice creams and coffees, the shop offers salad, sandwiches, homemade biscuits, pastries, and desserts.

Repeat child sex offender sentenced 25 years for attempted transfer of obscene material
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A Lugoff man is facing more than two decades in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor. Chad Michael Rabon, 34, will spend 25 years in federal prison. He is already a registered sex offender, which landed him two additional counts of commission of a felony sex offense involving a minor by a registered sex offender. He plead guilty to that charge as well.

Charles Thomas “Tom” Medlin, 82, of Camden, died on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Born on December 27, 1941, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Woodrow Thomas and Cora Bell Hammond Medlin. Tom served his country honorably in the United States Air Force SAC Elite Guard. He was a graduate of Dentsville High School, Class of 1961. Tom loved his wife and children deeply. He was a wonderful Pawpaw to all his grandchildren. In his free time, Tom loved to be on the water as an avid fisherman and enjoyed working on brotherhood projects at his home church of Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church. Tom was a heavy equipment specialist who owned and operated Equipment Repair, Inc. for over 40 years. He will be deeply missed; however, we know that he is rejoicing with Our Lord and Savior. Tom’s heart was for the Lord and for all to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Post 31 Juniors to open playoffs
LANCASTER, S.C. — Of the four local American Legion teams, only the Lancaster Post 31 Juniors made the playoffs this summer. Both the Post 31 Eagles of Kershaw and the Post 31 Jackets of Buford finished their season last week. The Jackets finished with a 5-7 record and the Eagles finished at 3-9.

Heat continues to build into area
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – The heat continues to build into the area. High temperatures have been sky rocketing all day. Temperatures along the border belt and Pee Dee, have been closing in on the 100 degree mark today. In fact some locations towards Cheraw, Lumberton, and Bennettsville reached 100 today. Numerous locations continue in a heat advisory for the remainder of the day into the evening hours. Heat index values spiked to 112 in Florence today. Tonight we will see another hot and humid evening across the area. It will be a slow fall through the 80s. In fact right along the coast, we may not fall below 80 for a low.
