MCCAMMON — A man was rushed to Portneuf Medical Center on Friday after being run over by his own pickup truck and trailer during an incident in McCammon, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the lawn of a home at 1st West after the man's Ford pickup truck wouldn't start and he was working on the engine but didn't realize he had left the vehicle in gear, the Bannock County Sheriff's Office reported.

Once the man started the engine, the pickup began to move, so he tried to get back inside the cab to stop the vehicle.

But the man lost his footing and fell to the ground while trying to enter the runaway pickup truck as it drove narrowly past a parked unoccupied car on the property, authorities said.

The runaway pickup's rear driver side tire then drove over the man's right leg followed by the flat-bed trailer the pickup had in tow running over his right leg as well, the Sheriff's Office said.

The trailer had a riding lawn mower on it at the time of the incident.

The pickup continued driving after running over the man but came to a stop after hitting a nearby fence.

A neighboring resident heard the man yelling for help and called 911, authorities said.

Bannock County sheriff's deputies and multiple ambulances responded to the scene.

The man was transported via Pocatello Fire Department ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello for treatment of his injured leg as well as cuts and scrapes.

The man's name hasn't been released but the Sheriff's Office said he is expected to survive.

Authorities said the man doesn't reside at the property where the incident occurred but he is a local resident.
