Ritchie beats Kitchens in Charleston Co. sheriff’s runoff
MORNING NEWSBREAK | Former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie won the Tuesday Republican runoff for Charleston County sheriff against opponent Greg Kitchens. Ritchie, a current member of Mount Pleasant’s town council, earned 59.6% percent of the vote, with Kitchens taking 40.4% in Tuesday’s runoff election, according to unofficial results from the S.C. Election Commission. In the June 11 GOP primary, Kitchens outpolled Ritchie by a 45-42 margin in a field of four candidates. Ritchie will face incumbent Democratic Sheriff Kristin Graziano in November.

Happy July 4th! I hope you will have the opportunity to participate in the annual golf cart parade and fireworks. Both are always a great way to spend the day on the island. A couple of much anticipated projects are complete or very close to completion – improved drainage outfall at 41st Avenue and our new public dock. First, thank you for your patience as the city works on these highly anticipated improvements to the quality of life on our island. The drainage project will provide much needed relief to an area that is impacted by significant tidal inundation. As a result of piping and covering the open ditch between Waterway Boulevard and the Intracoastal Waterway, the City added approximately 30 parking spaces for the marina area. The parking spaces will be free for residents with a valid resident decal.
Charleston County Parks’ Inclusive Prom Returns on August 10
The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission invites all members of the community with disabilities to the annual Inclusive Prom on August 10th. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their finest bell bottoms and sequins or any other ‘70s inspired attire. The prom will be from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall Gym, located at 100 Ann Edwards Lane.
