MP Rotary kicks off new club year
The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant's 2024 Installation Banquet was the celebration of the official passing of the torch from outgoing President Lewis Lee to David Kent. The June 20 event at the Hobcaw Yacht Club also saw District 7770 Gov. Lou Mello induct the club's new officers and board members. In addition, service-minded members Andrea Ulmer, Ken Tallmadge and Clinton Dunn were each recipients of individual awards. Going into the Rotary year, members of the Mount Pleasant Club will strive to follow the Rotary International mantra of "Creating Hope in the World," through a variety of charitable efforts.
Lee M. Piper
Lee M. Piper, 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of Brick, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Lee was born in Cocoa Beach, Florida to the late Julie Culbert (Hale) and the late Robert Hale. She graduated from Cocoa High School and attended Florida Southern College. Lee was wed to Kevin E. Boyle on June 10, 1958. They lived four years at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado after which they traveled overseas courtesy of the United States Air Force residing in Okinawa and the Philippines, returning intermittently to Air Force bases in Michigan and Florida, ultimately settling in Toms River, New Jersey. It was at Fort Dix and later Fort Monmouth where Lee started her career with the United States government in Supply and Logistics. She also owned and operated Surf Upholstery for 44 years. Lee and Kevin were married for twelve years, and their family grew to include seven children.

St. Andrews Church reverend elected archbishop of the Anglican Church
The Right Rev. Steve Wood of St. Andrews Church in Mount Pleasant has been elected the next archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America. Wood will serve as the third elected archbishop of the organization, founded in 2009 with over 128,000 members in over 1,000 congregations, a press release states. He was chosen after the College of Bishops of the Anglican Church in North America met in conclave from June 20-22 in the crypt of St. Vincent’s Basilica at St. Vincent’s College in Latrobe, Pa.
