Rock Hill Boy Has Make-A-Wish Dream Come True
A Rock Hill Boy’s Make-A-Wish dream has come true. I’ve been around a lot of professional athletes over the years. Most of which are really good guys and gals. However, the actions of some have a tendency to cast a dark shadow over the whole group. Stories like this, should do as much to restore your faith in them as they do me.
Who will be Gaffney’s next mayor?
As neighboring cities see explosive growth, Gaffney mayoral candidates expressed a need for affordable housing and offered different takes on the city’s efforts to support downtown business growth. The City of Gaffney has approved annexations after developers announced plans for 2,000 more homes over the past two years. The city council has passed first reading on a 6-month moratorium that […]
60 BPW employees paid at least $75,000 and that doesn’t include benefits
It pays. I mean it really, really pays to work at the Gaffney Board of Public Works. Nearly 75%, or 60 of the 81 BPW employees, make more than $75,000 a year, according to figures from the local utility. That’s up from 52 a year ago, with a 5% cost of living raise in this fiscal year budget for all […]

Rock Hill region’s housing market sees more listings, but sales remain stagnant
The Rock Hill region had more homes for buyers to choose from this year compared to last, but it didn’t equate to more sales. Canopy Realtor Association just released data on home sales throughout the Charlotte region, through June. Compared to the first half of last year, all three counties in the Rock Hill region saw noticeable gains in new listings. But none had as many closings.
Here are Gastonia, Shelby high school football's most dominant programs the past 20 years
No matter one’s view, there’s no getting around the fact that high school football in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties is a big deal. With the exception of an abbreviated spring 2021 campaign, a team from the tri-county area has advanced to the NCHSAA regional final round each year since 2001. By and large, however, a familiar group of perennial winners have separated themselves from others locally, and in some cases their peers statewide.

Finally…home starts up
There was a first when it came to new home starts in June. And it was a good one. For the first time this year, monthly new home starts topped the 2023 number, according to the latest homebuilders report. The county building department issued 18 new home starts in June, up from 16 in June 2023, the report said. The […]
Limestone Presbyterian members support the Humane Society in honor of Sara Setzer
Sara Setzer was an avid artist and cat lover, but also an active member of Limestone Presbyterian Church. Setzer was an advocate for church Wednesday night suppers, and when they were paused during the summers, she would select a restaurant each week to host “Sara’s Suppers,” where members of the church could continue to fellowship during the break. When Setzer […]
OPINION: The Best 10 that I've Seen
With high school football rapidly approaching, I look forward to being on air for my 12th season. It all began for me in 2012 as a junior at Boiling Springs High School. At the time, Bulldog Football games were broadcasted on ESPN Spartanburg with Tom Dixon and Phil Cox. I began by keeping stats for the broadcast crew and that is where my story started. The next year, I went to the field as the sideline analyst for what was an internet broadcast for the next 7 years. In 2019, I left UpstatePrep-Cast for ESPN Upstate where I became the Voice of the Byrnes Rebels for the next 3 years. I was not involved in the fall of 2022 as I was living in Dallas, Texas. In 2023, I returned to the field as the sideline analyst for the WZZQ broadcast at Gaffney High School. After joining The Fan Upstate (previously ESPN Upstate) full time in March of 2024, I am back serving as the Play by Play Voice of the Byrnes Rebels for my 4th season.
