Illegal guns, ammunition seized after shots fired incident in Utica
UTICA — A Utica man is facing multiple charges after Utica Police said they found two illegal handguns and several ammunition containers at a home on Dudley Avenue. Police said Abdi Osman, 25, fired several shots near the intersection of Jay and Hubbell streets on July 20, leading to an investigation. Police said Osman was located and taken into custody on Monday, followed by a search warrant executed on his home in the 1500 block of Dudley Avenue.
Devils re-sign Comets goalie Daws to two-year contract
The Utica Comets parent club New Jersey Devils announced, Tuesday, that they have re-signed goalie Nico Daws to a two-year contract worth an average annual salary of $812,000. With Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen the expected duo in Newark for the 2023-24 season, Daws will likely spend most of the season back in Utica for his fourth season with the Comets.

A New York state police recruit is charged with assaulting a trooper and trying to grab his gun
CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a New York state trooper recruit was arrested after he attacked a trooper and tried to grab his gun while attending a training academy last week. State police say the 22-year-old was at an upstate training academy on July 23 when he told troopers he wanted to drop out of the academy and leave. They say a trooper was helping to make arrangements for the recruit to leave when the recruit lunged at the trooper tried to grab the trooper’s gun out of its holster. A message seeking comment was sent to the recruit’s attorney on Tuesday.
