Anthony Brindisi nominated to District Court seat
WASHINGTON, DC (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — President Joe Biden has named three nominees for federal district court seats, and a local judge is on the shortlist. Judge Anthony Brindisi, who currently serves on the New York State Court of Claims in Utica, was nominated on Wednesday, July 31 to serve on the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. Brindisi’s nomination is part of Presiden Biden’s 53rd round of nominees for federal judicial nominees, and one of 254 judges nominated during his administration.

The Olympics, not the games underway in Paris right now, those aren't what's making me pause to write this column — although gymnast Simone Biles is pretty incredible. No, The Olympic games I am referring to were later dubbed "Field Day" at elementary schools. I remember events like the three-legged race and some sort of weight-throwing event that could have quickly gotten out of hand if not for the watchful eye of the teachers.

Richard “Dick” C. Fletcher, age 76, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at UPMC Hamot Hospital. Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of Donald and Lucille Fletcher. Richard graduated from Frontier High School in Hamburg and Alfred Tech with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He served 4 years with the US Army as a Military Police Officer in Frankfurt Germany, returning to Western, NY to own and operate a dairy Farm of Distinction in Clymer, NY. After selling the farm, he pursued a career and retired from the Farm Service Agency with the US Department of Agriculture in Chautauqua, NY. He enjoyed spending his winters in Largo, FL and returning in the summers to drive the school bus for Clymer Central School.
