Baughman selected as 2023-24 Academic All-American by CSC
SEWARD, Neb. – One final award for the 2023-24 season came the way of Concordia University Wrestling standout Creighton Baughman. The recent graduate was named a 2023-24 Second Team Academic All-America® At-Large Team award winner on Wednesday (July 17) by College Sports Communicators. Baughman was upgraded to All-America status after having been named Academic All-District on June 25.
Watts takes leadership of wrestling program; Crosby tabbed as lead assistant
SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University Wrestling will take on new leadership beginning with the 2024-25 season. On Wednesday (July 17), the Concordia University, Nebraska Athletic Department announced the hiring of Josh Watts as Head Wrestling Coach. Watts formerly served as the Director of Wrestling at Iowa Western Community College. Watts acted to immediately tab Isaiah Crosby as his lead assistant, a role Crosby also held at Iowa Western.
Iowa Western’s Josh Watts Becomes Head Coach at Concordia University
(Seward, NE) – Concordia University has named former Iowa Western Wrestling Director, Josh Watts, as the new Head Coach of the Bulldog Wrestling program. Since establishing the Iowa Western Wrestling program in 2011, Coach Watts has transformed it into a national contender. In 2021, he was promoted to Director of Wrestling, where he oversaw the addition of the women’s wrestling program to the athletic department. During his 13 years at Iowa Western, Coach Watts has achieved remarkable success: eight NJCAA men’s national champions, two women’s NJCAA Invitational national champions, one JCNC national champion, 123 national qualifiers, and 69 men’s and women’s All-Americans.

Sutton resident Theophil C. Huber, 81, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton. Memorial services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2024, at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton with Rev. Scott Henry officiating. Private graveside services took place prior to the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com Theophil was born Oct. 17, 1942, in Sutton to Benjamin and June (Helzer) Huber. He received his education in Grafton through the 8th grade and graduated from Sutton High School. He owned and operated his own landscaping and concrete ornament business. He resided at the Nolde Center in Sutton until he became ill.
Concordia University, Nebraska hosts 2024 Institute on Liturgy, Preaching and Church Music conference
The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod 2024 Institute on Liturgy, Preaching and Church Music - themed “Songs of Deliverance: Psalms in the Great Congregation” - was conducted July 9–12, 2024 on the campus of Concordia University, Nebraska. Presented by LCMS Worship, the conference was attended by more than 400 musicians, pastors, teachers and interested laypersons.
Howard D. Miller
Howard Dwain Miller of Crete, formally of Friend, passed away July 8, 2024, at Bryan East Medical Campus in Lincoln, at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 20 days. He was born Oct. 19, 1927, in rural Milford, to Eli and Etna (Alber) Miller, the youngest of four children. He was united in marriage to Bonnie June Smith on Nov. 27, 1947, and in 2022, they celebrated 75 years together. Randall Ray and Jeanne Yavonne were chosen to complete their family.

Erma Jean Lundberg, age 94, of Fairmont, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Fairview Manor in Fairmont. She was born to Lloyd Thomas and Adelia Pearl (Tibbetts) Dunlap in Irving, Kan. on October 10, 1929. Erma Jean is survived by her children: Cynthia and Tim Sherbeck of Davenport, Raye Jean and Marvin Schultz of Sargent and Roger and Mary Lundberg of Fairmont; seven grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.
