The Aurora 4R School Board deserves the community’s full support for sending a strong message to students last month by banning the use of cell phones during school hours. This decision will not be unanimously popular, which was evident in some of the social media reactions posted by students. However, the goal of providing an environment free from distractions and the constant allure of social media, games and messaging makes any pushback pale in comparison to the benefits of a phone-free classroom.

Beulah M. Garhart, age 91 of Stromsburg, died Sunday, July 14, 2024 in Stromsburg. She was born on July 12, 1933 to Irvin and Ruby M. (Timmerman) Cloyd in Ewing. She graduated from Ewing High School in 1951. On April 19, 1952 she was united in marriage to George Alfred Garhart in O’Neill.

The quiet rooms at the middle school and the bathroom at the bus garage are close to being done. Bus radios are in, and we are still working with the city to figure out the details of the repeater on the water tower. The concrete work throughout the district will be started soon and we will also have a small walking trail at the elementary school that the Elementary PTO is paying for. 4.3. Year-End Substitute Teacher Discussion Dr. Fields reported to the board the amount we have paid for subs for the 23-24 school year along with what we have paid teachers when their sick bank is maxed out. 5.
