Malleck Makes History with Win at 116th Nebraska Amateur
LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska Golf Association) - York’s Reed Malleck capped off a historic week to win the 116th Nebraska Amateur Championship on Friday at Fremont Golf Club. Malleck shot a Final Round 69 (-2) to win by one stroke over his Husker teammate Hamish Murray, finishing with a 273 (-11) total. It’s Malleck’s first Nebraska Amateur title, and he is the fifth player with four rounds in the 60s, having shot 68 (-3) each of the first three rounds.
State corn board member Nerud tapped for national association
Nebraska Corn Board member Dan Nerud, whose district includes Gage County, was recently elected to the Corn Board of the National Corn Growers Association. Nerud, a Dorchester farmer, is a former president of the Nebraska association. His term on the national board begins Oct. 1 and will last three years.

Stepping onto the porch at Uncle Vernon’s house, we were greeted with a cloud of smoke from the grill and hearty greetings from a variety of cousins and several uncles. Knowing that a fish fry at the Vernon Raber residence is always enjoyable and tasty, everyone looked forward to an evening of food and fellowship. We were all ushered to the back porch, where tables were set for everyone who paid for their meal. Yes, this time, we had paid for our fish not because Vernon is anywhere close to being stingy but because tickets sold at the Raber family along with a benefit auction were to generate money for a cousin’s husband, who is awaiting a liver transplant.
Trinity Lutheran in Waco offers personalized, individual instruction
WACO — Teachers at Trinity Lutheran School in Waco are gearing up for another school year, installing smart boards and organizing the classrooms. The private Christian K-8 school is small. There are only between 20 and 30 students enrolled in the school at any time. Principal Richard Owen, III said that is part of the appeal.
