Local shelter seeks adopters during National Adoption Week
PADUCAH — In an attempt to free up kennel space, The McCracken County Humane Society is taking part in this year’s National Pet Adoption Week at PetSmart in Paducah. The shelter currently houses 163 animals, including dogs and cats — of which 94 are available. All animals at the event are up-to-date on vaccinations and are under $50 to adopt.

PADUCAH — McCracken County Sheriffs’ Office responded Friday to a report of a man who set fire to a home on Almyra Avenue after attempting to strangle a woman. A news release from the sheriff's office said that deputies responded around 7:18 a.m. and learned that one of the occupants intentionally set fire to the home using a homemade incendiary device after he attempted to strangle the woman in the home. The woman and all occupants escaped the house fire without injury; however, a dog died in the fire.

PADUCAH — McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded Monday to a report of a man who stabbed his mother in the Farley area of McCracken County. According to a news release from the sheriff's office, deputies responded around 3:14 p.m. to the 300 block of Oaks Road for a physical disturbance. A deputy saw a man threaten a woman with a large knife. The man, identified as John Taber, 21, of Paducah, approached the deputy with the knife. Multiple deputies and a Paducah Police Department officer took Taber into custody.
