Eastern Shore town launches counterattack on climate flooding
A small town threatened by sea level rise on Maryland’s Eastern Shore is getting a big boost from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in its fight against flooding. Crisfield is receiving $36 million from FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, the agency announced July 15. The funding is slated for the construction of the first of two phases of a massive public works effort to protect the city of 2,500 residents from tidal flooding and storm surges.

Errors costly in Baltimore Orioles 8-4 loss to Toronto in second game of doubleheader
BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles committed three errors in their 8-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of Monday's doubleheader at Camden Yards.The teams split the doubleheader with the Orioles winning 11-5 in the first game. Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser hit home runs and drove in two runs apiece for Baltimore (63-44).The Orioles tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second before Toronto scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth.Pitcher Cade Povich allowed six runs, only three earned, while walking five.Vladimir Guerrero Jr. torched the Baltimore pitching with four hits and three RBIs. UPDATED: Laurel Police Looking for Robbery Suspect after Fulton Bank Robbery
UPDATED – 07/30/24 – Laurel Police were called to the Fulton Bank on Route 13 just before 9:30 Monday morning for a robbery alarm activation. The suspect was gone when police arrived. Investigation showed that a black man entered the band and presented a demand note to a teller and left on foot with the cash in the direction of Discount Land Road. During a canvass of neighboring businesses, police learned the same suspect shoplifted from the Dollar General next to the bank. The suspect is believed to be in his 40s, about 5′ 8” to 5′ 10” and was wearing a white T-shirt over an off-white shirt, light gray long shorts and a red flat-brim cap with a black bill with a green/yellow/red marijuana leaf logo and white shoes with black soles. Annapolis woman reunited with cat 10 years later
10 years ago, a nurse treated an elderly patient at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. At the time, the patient and her partner had to surrender their 7-year-old cat named Papa Bear. After being re-admitted, the nurse who adopted the cat recognized the patient and brought the cat back in to reconnect with his former owner!

BALTIMORE -- A large pod of dolphins crossed Katie Pumphrey's path as the ultra-marathon swimmer from Baltimore was completing another remarkable task on Monday.A month after completing a 24-mile swim from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Pumphrey took on another swimathon. She completed a 20-mile swim from Cantina Island to Rancho Palos Verdes, a city on the coast of south Los Angeles. Pumphrey began her journey through the North Pacific Ocean at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. Her swim took more than 14 hours to complete. She was accompanied by a three-man crew, including her husband and two kayakers....

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) — One person was killed in a shooting inside a shopping mall in a suburb of Baltimore and Washington on Saturday, police said. Authorities received a call after gunfire in the food court area of the mall in Columbia, Maryland, at about 6:10 p.m. Officers found Angelo Little, 17, of Columbia, dead from a gunshot wound, Howard County police said.

Federal prosecutors detailed how Britton-Harr aimed to profit substantially from the pandemic projecting revenues of up to $500 million by improperly billing Medicare for tests that were either unnecessary never performed or conducted without physician orders.
