Southern Tier New York Weekend Fun! Check Out These Events
Last weekend was a busy one in the Southern Tier of New York, and as summer progresses, each weekend (and weekdays as well) brings a lot of events to attend. While there are probably a lot more, here are a few things I found happening in and around the Binghamton area check out as you begin to make your weekend (and extended weekend) plans. Have fun!

Ince the October 7 attacks set off a wave of campus incidents and activism, several major Jewish donors have halted or withdrawn gifts to colleges they saw as not being responsive enough to antisemitic behavior on campus. But at an unusual renaming ceremony this spring at Colgate University, alumnus and trustee Dan Benton put a twist on that narrative.
Cortland launches police chief search

The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County announced Friday that they are set to enter into a partnership with the Cortland County Family YMCA. The Cortland County Family YMCA looks to gain additional staff support and expertise without losing the individuality they’ve had for over 150 years. The Ithaca YMCA will provide assistance with grant, philanthropy, and membership growth opportunities.
Cayuga Heights loses public works director to Cortland

Annual Pride Festival held in Cortland (video included)
The annual Cortland Community Pride Festival was held on Saturday at courthouse park. The event included vendors, a couple of drag shows, various guest speakers and more. This was only the second annual Cortland Pride Festival, as the first-ever Pride Festival in Cortland was held in 2023.

Cortland Fire Department receives federal funding
CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – The City of Cortland and its firefighters will benefit from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding. The Cortland Fire Department (CFD) has been awarded about $48,000 for new protective gear and training through DHS FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Binghamton, Elmira, and Whitney Point join Cortland as Southern Tier winners. Nearly $1.5 million is headed to 16 departments across the state, including the City of Auburn and Moravia in Cayuga County.

Cortland man charged after police say they witnessed drug sale
CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – A man is in custody after authorities in Cortland say they saw him selling drugs. Cortland Police were investigating Thursday, July 11 near the Speedway gas station on Port Watson Street when they allegedly witnessed Christian Rogers make a narcotic sale. The 32-year-old had fentanyl, cocaine, meth, packaging material, and cash in his possession, according to Cortland PD.

Wanted Groton man arrested on numerous charges after police chase
DRYDEN, N.Y. (WETM) — A wanted Groton man is facing multiple drug, weapon, theft, and escape-related charges after a police chase that started in Dryden. According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies and Dryden Police Officers saw Joshua F. Conklin, 35, leaving the Dryden Hotel in a black Ford Mustang at 8:34 a.m. on July 10. The deputies and officers tried to stop Conklin, who was wanted, but he refused to comply.
