BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Kern County jury has convicted a man of stealing a vehicle in McFarland and hitting the owner in the face when confronted, prosecutors say.

Luis Antonio Trejo faces up to eight years and eight months in prison at his July 24 sentencing hearing, according to a release from the District Attorney’s Office.

On Feb. 6, Trejo stole a vehicle and the owner managed to catch up to him, according to the release. Trejo hit the owner in the face — which resulted in a jury convicting him of misdemeanor battery.

Authorities found burglary tools — a screwdriver and shaved key — when they arrested him, prosecutors say.

Additionally, in March of last year Trejo tried to break into a McFarland business and two vehicles parked nearby, according to the release. He ran when law enforcement arrived, but was captured soon after.
