Man jailed for starting fire in basement of Kansas home
SHAWNEE COUNTY —Police investigating a fire at a home in Topeka have made an arrest. Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, crews responded to a reported house fire at 1305 SW Western Avenue in Topeka, according to spokesperson Rosie Nichols. Firefighters found smoke coming from the home and fire in the basement. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and no occupants were located in the house. No injuries have been reported.
Security Benefit donates to Library Foundation for Kids Library Renovation
The Library Foundation received a $50,000 gift from Security Benefit to support the renovations of the Kids Library at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. “Supporting the Kids Library with a gift of $50,000 underscores our company’s commitment to literacy and education initiatives,” said Security Benefit CEO Doug Wolff. “A few years ago we provided funding for a new bookmobile for the library and we’re excited to announce today our collaboration on another project that will help children learn and grow and someday contribute to our community’s workforce."
