H Mart describes itself as the largest Asian supermarket chain in America with nearly 100 stores nationwide. The company opened its first store in Woodside, Queens in New York in 1982. Until the turn of the century H Mart confined its business to the northeast before it began to expand west and south after 2000.

Now the company plans to expand for the first time into the Sunshine State. Progressive Grocer reports that a store is planned for Orlando and could open as soon as this winter. The report pinpoints the location at Westland Terrace Plaza at 7501 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando. The H Mart website also indicates the proposed store the only note from the company on timing is “cominhg soon.”

This note from founder Il Yeon Kwon, on the company website.

This year we will continue to push ourselves to become one of the leading Korean companies in the U.S. by nourishing our souls with only the best we can possibly offer.
