    Aldi's Florida Conversion Plans: 2 Winn-Dixie & 1 Harvey's Stores

    2024-08-09

In an August 16th, 2023 press release, Aldi grocery company announced it had acquired the Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s supermarkets in a larger divestiture of Southeastern Grocers. This acquisition was reiterated in a March 7th, 2024 press release, announcing Aldi’s ambitious expansion plans and its intentions to convert some of the Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s locations to the Aldi banner. Here are 3 Florida locations that are in the process of converting:

    • A Winn-Dixie store in Lakeland, has closed and begun the conversion. It is expected to reopen as an Aldi in early 2025 according to a Supermarket News article—48 workers were let go.
    • The Jacksonville Daily Record reported last month that plans are being finnalized for the North Jacksonville Harvey’s store at 2261 Edgewood Ave. to be converted to Aldi. No timeline has been establised as of yet for the conversion.
    • South Tampa's Winn-Dixie at 2100 W Swann Ave. is also in the process of changing to the Aldi banner. A Creative Loafer report cites public permits as the basis for this report. Again, no timeline has been established.

Aldi aquired 400 stores 5 states, CEO Jason Hart said that the company would evaluate each Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s to determine which stores would be converted to the Aldi banner.

I prefer Aldi's. Stores are clean, great for snacks and party items. They need more produce. Meat and are good, but need more of it.

I prefer Winn Dixie. I can't shop in Aldi's because they don't have the grocer things I need. It is much easier to shop in Winn Dixie.
