Pinning ceremony held for new Rhodes State nursing program graduates
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Five nursing students making history at Rhodes State College on Wednesday. The first-ever pinning and white coat ceremony was held for the new completion program at Rhodes. Students who are already registered nurses with an associate's degree earn their bachelor's of science in nursing degree after finishing the program in just a year. The pinning ceremony is a rite of passage in the nursing profession, and the white coat signifies the advancement in their education. The goal is to offer students a flexible schedule where they can take classes while working in the field.

Mansfield Music Fest 2024 set to ignite Snow Trails with melting pot of genres
MANSFIELD – Hip-hop beats, metal riffs, and alt-rock melodies will once again echo through the hills of Snow Trails as Mansfield Music Fest (MMF) returns Aug. 16 and 17. The festival is gearing up to deliver a dynamic mix of music, art and community. It will feature nearly 50 performers, including local, regional and national acts.
GenNext summer interns share their experiences at mayor's briefing
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Eleven young adults are getting much-needed on-the-job training this summer as the City of Lima's GenNext Workforce Development Program winds down. Several of the summer interns shared what they have been doing this summer at Mayor Sharetta Smith's media briefing this week. The program asks what type of work the individual aged 16 to 24 wants to do, and then the city finds a business that meets their criteria. Participants spent the summer exploring jobs in marketing, radio, public utilities, along with child care, and others. They say the experience has opened their eyes to the fields they were interested in.
FIDF Ohio chapter part of Israel visit, provides ‘connection’ post-Oct. 7
About 30 people involved with the Central Region of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces took a mission trip to Israel from June 23 through June 27. When creating the itinerary and goals for the trip, the FIDF thought about how it could best share the stories from Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, and help people understand that this is a historical time, Tamir Oppenheim, vice president of the central region of the FIDF, told the Columbus Jewish News July 17. The same itinerary has been used four times and is planned to be used again later this year. The Central Region of the group includes the Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Dallas chapters.
Ohio deputies looking for man with a nationwide warrant out of West Virginia after he led officials on a chase and disappeared
The Noble County Sheriff's Office said they are looking for Timothy Shawn Wines, 53-years-old, from Washington County Ohio. Wines has a nationwide arrest warrant out of Jackson County, WV.
Cenovus and EMA release statement on large refinery flare, no danger to public
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The flare at Cenovus is burning a little bigger because there is a unit issue with one of their processes. According to the Allen County EMA, the bigger flare is part of their normal shutdown procedure, because product is being sent to the flare. The EMA director says there is no reported risk to the community. All employees have been accounted for and Cenovus is monitoring air quality. All response efforts being handled in house at the Lima refinery.
