Some changes taking place at McKeesport Area High School, where a new policy to restrict cell phone usage in school goes into effect.

McKeesport's high school principal, Eric Harper, sent a letter out to parents this week, telling them that students will no longer be allowed to use their phones in school.

The school will give the students a pouch to keep their phones in during the school year, and students will be responsible for the pouch at all times.

The new policy comes just a couple of months after state lawmakers in Harrisburg introduced legislation that would call for similar restrictions in schools throughout the state.

The bill is being drafted by Ryan Aument, who says such action would lead to an improvement in student academic performance, physical health and mental health.
