New ‘ALX Closet’ opens to provide emergency resources to Alexandria families in need
Alexandria families in an emergency or a crisis now have a one-stop shop for children’s clothing, basic necessities and more. Local nonprofits The Center for Alexandria’s Children and The Fund for Alexandria’s Child is opening ALX Closet, a new resource center dedicated to helping Alexandria’s children and families get access to necessities in times of need. ALX Closet is located in the Del Pepper Community Resource Center at 4850 Mark Center Drive — aka West End Town Hall.

A Fairfax City man has been charged with reckless use of a firearm after allegedly firing a gun inside his home last week. The City of Fairfax Police Department says its officers responded to the 10000 block of Whitehead Street in the Old Fairfax Mews townhomes at 12:26 a.m. on July 15 after a resident reported that a gun was fired into their home.

Gaithersburg Gets Grant Funding for Marker Commemorating Historic Black Community
Gaithersburg received national grant funding for a historical marker for Metropolitan Grove, a historic Black community in the area. The city got $50,000 from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund under the National Trust for Historic Preservation, according to a release last week. The Gaithersburg Community Museum will use the funding for research, development, and creation of historical marker signage as part of the Gaithersburg History Project.
