PROGRESS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: McMullen County's London Yanity
McMullen County’s London Yanity is off to a fast start this cross country season. Yanity finished fifth in the Class 1A-4A division of the Floresville Cross Country Invitational on Aug. 17, and followed up that performance on Aug. 24 by taking second at the Karnes City Cross Country Invitational.
Cross country teams compete in Karnes Invitational
As the countdown to the district cross country meets continue, four local squads took their skills to the course this weekend at the Karnes City Invitational. Among 13 squads in the varsity girls division, McMullen County and Pleasanton took the top two spots. Pleasanton’s Shalyn Gutierrez led the way with a third place finish followed by McMullen’s London Yanity in fourth.

Cowgirls win team title at Karnes City meet
The McMullen County Cowgirls captured first place at the Karnes City Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. The Cowgirls’ London Yanity finished second with a time of 10 minutes, 59.67 seconds over the 2-mile course. Also leading McMullen County were Camie Taylor (5th, 11:25.47), Ella David (8th, 11:48.32), Caroline Trudeau (10th, 11:50.84), and Crystal Gardner (18th, 12:13.91).

Cross country teams compete in Floresville Invitational
Three local squads took their skills to the cross country course over the weekend. Pleasanton, Jourdanton and McMullen County competed at the Floresville Invitational. The Cowgirls finished second out of 16 teams led by a fifth place finish from junior London Yanity in the two-mile race. The Lady Eagles took sixth led by a 13th place finish from Shalyn Gutierrez. McMullen County’s Brandon Timms led the way on the boys side with a 6th place finish in the 5K.

McMullen County’s London Yanity finished fifth and the Cowboys’ Brandon Timms placed sixth in the Class 1A-4A Division at the Floresville Invitational on Aug. 17. Yanity finished the 2-mile course in 12 minutes, 18.90 seconds. Also leading the Cowgirls were Caroline Trudeau (12th, 12:40.21), Camie Taylor (18th, 13:08.60), Ella David (32nd, 13:54.10), and Crystal Gardner (57th, 14:35.40).

The McMullen County Cowgirls lost a pair of matches at the Wimberley TEX-FEST Tournament on Aug. 16-17.
