The Sunday Minefield – July 14, 2024
After the failed assassination attempt of Donald Trump yesterday, it feels a bit weird writing this week’s column. It’s a sad time in America when a former president and soon-to-be presidential nominee is nearly killed on live TV. The coming weeks and months in our country will be telling. Tuesday’s Anchorage Assembly meeting will be the first for Mayor Suzanne LaFrance as mayor. The fallout from now-former Judge Josh Kindred’s resignation continues. And the August primary is just 37 days away.

Miners snap skid in tight Mulcahy win
A rainy weekend in the Anchorage area meant both the combatants in Monday’s game were coming off long periods of inactivity. For Mat-Su, a deflating 4-1 loss to the Glacier Pilots gave way to an eventual three-day break, while the Bucs lost the second leg of the annual Mayor’s Cup series against their Mulcahy Stadium roommates and had to wait as well. Offensively, the rust definitely showed, but the Miners grinded out a 1-0 win – their third win this season by such a score – nonetheless.
