State carbon management program, selling credits for state land, set to start
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - New state regulations are set to go into effect July 19 to allow the state to establish carbon offset programs on state-owned land. Last year, legislation was enacted allowing the state to use its lands and natural resources for carbon management projects. The legislation authorized two programs within the Department of Natural Resources: the Carbon Offset Program and Carbon Management Leasing.

The largest newspaper in Alaska is reducing to a twice-weekly publication and serves as the latest casualty of a downward trend in subscribers to print media. The Anchorage Daily News, which previously published and distributed a physical newspaper six times weekly, announced the distribution reduction in a letter to subscribers from owner Ryan Binkley on Monday, July 8.

Governor Dunleavy signs UA priority legislation to support student success, workforce development
Legislation containing several of the University of Alaska’s (UA) top priorities has been signed into law by Governor Dunleavy. House Bill 148 (HB148) expands the Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS), reauthorizes the Technical Vocation and Education Program (TVEP), and extends the Education Tax Credit (ETC) program. Together, the changes will help prepare and develop Alaska students for the workforce by making post-secondary education more accessible and attainable.

Governor Dunleavy signs the University of Alaska FY25 budget with base increases to support an Empowered Alaska
The University of Alaska system’s FY25 Budget has been signed by Governor Dunleavy. The enacted state appropriation for UA is just over $331.3 million; combined with federal receipts and other revenues, UA’s total FY25 operating budget stands at just under $934.5 million. The budget represents continued strong investments in the university’s educational programs, people, and infrastructure and will allow UA to continue empowering Alaska.
