Heavy rain and gusting winds expected Saturday along Turnagain Arm could make travel conditions difficult on the Seward Highway. A storm system is set to bring rain to the Anchorage Bowl through Turnagain Arm beginning late Friday through Saturday evening, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement. Motorcyclist seriously injured in downtown Anchorage vehicle collision
A man was thrown from his motorcycle after a vehicle collision this week in downtown Anchorage, sending him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Anchorage police said in an online update that officers responded to the crash at C Street and West Sixth Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. Based on initial information, the motorcyclist was heading east on Sixth Avenue when he collided with a Tesla driving south on C Street, police said.

The natural gas shortage in Alaska has politicians floundering. An issue that may have seemed negligible years ago is reaching a breaking point, as natural gas prices are expected to jump substantially from current levels if Alaska has to rely on imports. One of the greatest victims of this shortage will be the school system, and with the Anchorage School District (ASD) already facing a potential $98 million budget deficit, the time for debating solutions has been exhausted; action must be taken — and soon. Class sizes are expected to increase; staff positions are expected to be cut. With no clear solution in sight, it is time to turn to an answer that would have seemed impractical years ago: solar energy.

Two women found dead in a Wasilla home on Saturday are suspected to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning, Alaska State Troopers said. The bodies of Rosa Schlosser, 21, and Desiree Michaud, 19, were found in a home in the Williwaw subdivision in Wasilla, troopers said in a statement posted online. The deaths were reported to troopers early Saturday afternoon, troopers said.
