After years of foot-dragging on a crucial transparency tool, new Anchorage Police Department chief nominee Sean Case is taking the correct tack. Asked in late June about how the department will handle body-worn camera footage — long a bone of contention for APD — Case was straightforward and surprisingly unequivocal. “I would like a timeline (for public release of body camera footage) because I think that’s the thing that sets the expectation,” Case said. “If we have a certain amount of time that we put in and this is when we want to release the bodycam footage, that kind of holds everyone off for that time period instead of immediately, from minute one, kind of raising that anxiety about what really happened.”

Richardson Cemetery in Anchorage AK on Wed July 17th at 2:00. He is survived by son Jason Ketchum, granddaughter McKayla Leschinskiy, grandson Elijah Ketchum, sisters Antonia Thompson and Tracy Ketchum and brother's David Ketchum and Carl Ketchum, and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Doug was kindhearted and giving. Very loyal patriot, served his country for 4 tours in Vietnam. Received Purple Heart and other commendations. Loved his family and friends. Lived in Anchorage Alaska for over 60 years. A member of 7th Day Adventist church and devoted to God. He was a great brother to me as the youngest sister and we were always here for each other. My husband Brad was like a brother to him and was a big part of his life as well. He was looking forward to being with Father God, and I know he's rejoicing in Heaven right now.
Rasmuson Foundation announces new programs, resumes grantmaking
The Rasmuson Foundation in Anchorage, Alaska, has announced it will broaden eligibility of its grantmaking programs, increase grant award sizes, and expedite award schedules. In January, as part of a board-led strategic planning effort, the foundation paused most of its grantmaking activities to assess and improve its internal processes to better serve Alaska communities and nonprofits. The changes include an increase of its Tier 1 grants from $25,000 to $35,000, a new Community Support grant for requests between $35,000 and $250,000, and rebranded Legacy grants (closely aligned with the former Tier 2 program) for requests that exceed $250,000. Individual Artist Awards will return in early 2025, with program details to be released later this year.

SEATTLE — A man was arrested in Alaska after allegedly assaulting his wife over her getting a seat upgrade on a flight from Seattle to Anchorage last week. Roger Holmberg was charged with assault after an incident on an Alaska Airlines flight on July 2. Per an affidavit reviewed by KING 5, the crew on board the flight became aware that a male passenger had struck a female passenger. Alaska Airlines told KING 5 that he was banned from its flights due to the incident.
