Governor Dunleavy signs UA priority legislation to support student success, workforce development
Legislation containing several of the University of Alaska’s (UA) top priorities has been signed into law by Governor Dunleavy. House Bill 148 (HB148) expands the Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS), reauthorizes the Technical Vocation and Education Program (TVEP), and extends the Education Tax Credit (ETC) program. Together, the changes will help prepare and develop Alaska students for the workforce by making post-secondary education more accessible and attainable.
Governor Dunleavy signs the University of Alaska FY25 budget with base increases to support an Empowered Alaska
The University of Alaska system’s FY25 Budget has been signed by Governor Dunleavy. The enacted state appropriation for UA is just over $331.3 million; combined with federal receipts and other revenues, UA’s total FY25 operating budget stands at just under $934.5 million. The budget represents continued strong investments in the university’s educational programs, people, and infrastructure and will allow UA to continue empowering Alaska.
New Arctic Engagement Award Recipients Announced
Four proposals from across the UA system will receive Arctic Engagement Award funding as UA launches the Arctic Leadership Initiative. One of the President’s and Board of Regents’ strategic priorities, the initiative will position Alaskans as world leaders in the Arctic, give students and early career professionals the foundation and network needed to lead in the changing Arctic and enhance the reputation of UA’s universities as centers of Arctic expertise.
79-year-old Big Lake woman dies after being struck by motorcycle on walking path
A Big Lake woman died after she was struck by a motorcycle on a paved walking trail Monday, Alaska State Troopers said. Brendan Clark, 19, of Anchorage, was driving a Yamaha dirt bike on a path in Big Lake “at a high rate of speed” when he struck 79-year-old Nadara Williams just before 4:30 p.m., troopers said. It is not legal to drive dirt bikes or other off-highway vehicles on walking paths.
