Anchorage Mayor LaFrance announces 6 new executive hires
Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance has announced six new executive appointments. In a statement, LaFrance said Barbara Jones will be deputy chief of staff. Jones previously served as Anchorage municipal clerk before retiring last year. She has also worked as the municipal ombudsman and as executive director and staff attorney for the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission. Jones joins LaFrance’s previously announced chief of staff Katie Scovic.

The Delaney Park Strip was gleaming with rainbows and glitter as crowds gathered on Saturday for the annual Anchorage Pride Parade. Dozens of booths were set up to sell art, clothes and trinkets while others distributed information about queer support services in and around the city. A parade of hundreds circled downtown, with people dancing, cheering and waving rainbow flags. Participants walked, danced, drove and rollerbladed their way through the street to fun music and massive cheers.
Eagle River woman adopts pothole for latest planting endeavor
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A peeved Eagle River woman is planting a message about which potholes need to be filled. This week, Lark Shellhamer placed a flower and topsoil in a pothole at one particularly pesky pothole that she runs over “three, four times a day,” located at North Montague Loop and Eagle River Loop.

AROUND ALASKA: Bears Put Down, Wildfire Walk, and Happy Birthday Mara!
Over the past week, three bears had to be put down at the Eklutna Lake Campground. In one instance, state park rangers say two black bears invaded a campsite and were eating the camper's food. Rangers decided the bears had become too habituated and put them down. A few days later, rangers returned to the Eklutna Campground and ultimately put down a third black bear.
