Incoming Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance announced this week the appointment of Sean Case to be the next chief of police for Alaska’s largest city. Case, currently a deputy chief, grew up in Anchorage and is a 23-year veteran of the force. On Monday, he’ll replace Bianca Cross, whom Mayor Dave Bronson appointed just two months ago before losing his reelection bid to LaFrance.
APD: Man dies while being taken into custody at Anchorage jail
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A man died due to a medical issue after being arrested Wednesday at the Anchorage Correctional Complex, according to Anchorage Police. APD says they took the man into custody after he was seen vandalizing the Alaska Backpackers Inn building on Eagle Street and nearby parked vehicles. Officers arrested the man after he ran into the woods, and took him to be booked at the jail for Criminal Mischief in the third degree.
