Board President Says Anderson Union School District “Will Not Comply” with California’s SAFETY Act
On Monday, July 15, California gained a new law known as the SAFETY Act. Previously known as Assembly Bill 1955, it strengthens current educational law that supports students in California’s LGBTQ+ community. It was passed into law in hopes of curbing the actions of about a dozen California school districts, including Anderson Union High School District, that have enacted “parental notification” policies.

Michael McKinney of the Capital Corp. Group gave an update on the allocation of the five million dollars for the remaining land and planning activities associated with the Imported Water Pipeline Project for a one-year funding period. The House version of the Bill that came out in June is slightly different from the Senate version of the Bill. It authorizes the project to be authorized by both the House and Senate. It is also bipartisan, which is a great achievement for the Authority.

Weekly Mosquito Spraying to Begin in Coachella Valley to Combat Viruses
The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District will initiate weekly mosquito spraying operations starting Saturday to curb mosquito-borne viruses in Indio and Coachella. The truck-mounted spraying will occur between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m., depending on weather conditions, and will continue through September 21st. The effort aims to significantly reduce the mosquito population and lower the risk of virus transmission.

Suspect Flees Empty-Handed in Latest Coachella Valley Bank Robbery
A man in disguise attempted to rob a Wells Fargo in Palm Springs last night but fled without any money. The suspect, who threatened a teller with a firearm, was later tracked to a vehicle in Thousand Palms, where authorities detained three individuals and recovered the weapon.
