ROANOKE, Va. – Virginians have hope regarding the economy, that’s the takeaway from a New Roanoke College poll released Thursday. It shows that a quarter of people who responded say they’re in a better place financially than last year. 37% believe their household finances will improve in the coming year.
Governor presents award to JAM program
Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne Youngkin present the “Spirit of Virginia” Award to Brett Morris, Executive Director and President of Junior Appalachian Musicians, Inc. (JAM), a nonprofit organization in Independence that reaches approximately 2,000 young students in five states to teach them to play traditional Appalachian old time and bluegrass music. The award was presented at the 88th Old Fiddlers’ Convention sponsored by Galax Moose Lodge #733. Looking on is JAM student Savannah Hodges of Wytheville, representing all JAM students that benefit from the program. Morris stated that the award is dedicated to the late Helen White, who founded JAM.
