LIMEHOF to induct three local hip hop legends
The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) will induct legendary hip-hop artists Davy DMX (Run-DMC, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys), DJ Hurricane (The Beastie Boys) and DJ Jazzy Jay (Def Jam) on Saturday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m. at their Stony Brook museum location, 97 Main Street, Stony Brook.

Riverhead Charter School looks to buy property in Calverton for new high school campus
The Riverhead Charter School is looking to buy property on the east corner of Middle Country Road and Fresh Pond Avenue in Calverton to site a new high school. The Riverhead Charter School Board of Trustees has authorized Superintendent Raymond Ankrum to execute a sales contract to purchase property at 4314 Middle Country Road in Calverton for $4.11 million, according to minutes of the charter school board’s July 17 meeting.
University Libraries’ AI Club Welcomes Incoming Students!
On Tuesday, August 20th 2024, the University Libraries AI Club hosted an AI themed event for incoming students. 40 students attended the event. The games included JeopIArdy, Boogie Woogie AI Groovin’ and Stony Look: An AI Image Guessing Game. They were created and developed by the University Libraries’ AI Club members (John Fitzgerald, Victoria Pilato, Matthew Hartman, Timothy Kohn, Chris Kretz, Christine Fena, Deborah Tomengo, Caterina Reed, Bee Farina, Ahmad Pratama, Sherry Chang, Clara Tran, Mona Ramonetti and Joe Lemelin (Dept of Philosophy)). The offerings not only sparked creativity using AI tools but opportunities to test and explore the capabilities and limitations of AI. Feedback from numerous attendees was extremely positive! Many stayed after the event to chat.

Levittown street renamed after local veteran
Levittown’s Blue Spruce Road has been renamed after veteran John “Jack” Killbride, who died last year of an Agent Orange-related illness at the age of 73. Killbride, born in 1949, served two tours in Vietnam, during which he earned two Purple Hearts and received the Navy Achievement Medal With Valor. When he returned home to Long Island, Killbride served as a police officer in Freeport for 18 years.
