Joe Scarborough Argues ‘Most Telling’ Angle of Biden Dropout is Republican Claims It’s Cheating

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough argued that the “most telling” angle about President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race was the immediate response from many Republicans.

Scarborough phoned into the network’s coverage of the shocking news that Biden would not seek a second term , folding to pressure from within his own party to drop out.

The host told his network colleague Katy Tur that he was among the first to note that Biden’s debate performance against Trump last month in Georgia was something that would be difficult to come back from.

Scarborough then argued that in his estimation, Republicans who have claimed Democrats will be cheating their primary voters by selecting an alternate candidate next month are afraid.

“I will say, the most telling thing about how positive this may be for the Democratic Party, it’s the Republican response,” he said. “Earlier this morning, Newt Gingrich was going on Twitter, talking about how this was a violation of democracy, it’s shocking and stunning and they are delegitimizing the votes of 14,500,000 Democrats. Scarborough continued:

You have Mike Johnson going around saying he will do everything he can to nullify this, despite the fact Democrats haven’t even had their convention. So he is standing on no ground at all. I’ve also had a good bit of reporting deep inside the Trump camp that this is the one thing that he feared. Donald Trump is always considering himself to be the ultimate disruptor. For the first time, not just in his political life, but the first first time in his media life and in his professional life, the disruption is on the other side.

Scarborough concluded that he believed former President Donald Trump was afraid to face a candidate who was not named Biden in November.

“Donald Trump is not disrupting and people are not having to respond to the shocking turn of events from him for once,” he said. “Now, Trump and his campaign team are going to have to respond to this shocking turn of events and they’re not happy about it at all. I think that is why you are seeing a lot of Trump’s acolytes in politics and the media coming out and bitterly complaining about this.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson issued a lengthy statement on social media in the minutes after Biden announced he would not seek another term in office after winning the Democratic primary.

“The Democrat Party forced the Democrat nominee off the ballot, just over 100 days before the election,” Johnson said. “Having invalidated the votes of more than 14 million Americans who selected Joe Biden to be the Democrat nominee for president, the self-proclaimed ‘party of democracy’ has proven exactly the opposite.”
