Stephen A. Smith Says Trump Is ‘Running Scared’ After Kamala Harris Announced Candidacy

Stephen A. Smith believes Donald Trump and JD Vance are “scared” of the prospect of running against Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

President Joe Biden on Sunday announced he was dropping out of the race following weeks of pressure from a portion of Democrats. That pressure was primarily fueled by his performance in a recent debate with Trump.

Now, Biden has stepped aside and endorsed his vice president to become the democratic candidate. She will look to be formally nominated at the Democratic National Convention next month.

Trump, however, has taken issue with the way the Democratic Party has handled the situation. In a Truth Social post, he claimed the Republican Party should be “reimbursed for fraud” after it was “forced to spend time and money” on fighting Biden. Vance and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson have also floated the idea of taking legal action against the Democratic Party.

To Smith, the reaction comes off as hypocritical.

“Donald Trump and JD Vance are running scared,” Smith said on Monday’s episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show , “and Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House, he’s running scared, too. What’s all this stuff about, ‘Legal action may be taken,’ because Biden decided to drop out of the race? Wait a minute, when he took the presidency, initially, he alluded to himself being a one-term president, that he was gonna be a stopgap to pave the way for a younger generation.

“Donald Trump, I know you ain’t trying to engage in — dare I say — ‘lawfare,’ are you? Wasn’t it you that was on stage saying that the Democrats were engaging in ‘lawfare’ because they weren’t confident they could beat you straight-up in an election? Kamala Harris ain’t bringing up insurrection. She ain’t bringing up the votes in Georgia. She might bring it up to make an argument against you from a character standpoint. She might bring up the 34 felony convictions, but her objective and what she tweeted out, she’s saying, ‘Yo, Donald Trump, I’m going to beat you. I can beat you.’ Ain’t that what you wanted? You said that’s what you wanted!”
