John Bolton Says Trump Can No Longer Distinguish Between Facts and Lies: ‘The Truth Is Whatever He Wants It To Be’

Former Trump administration national security advisor John Bolton criticized his former boss on Thursday as a man who is categorically dishonest to the point he can no longer distinguish between the truth and lies.

Bolton claimed former President Donald Trump lives in his own reality and that if his words do not match the facts of any given situation he “doesn’t really care.”

On CNN’s The Source , host Kaitlan Collins pressed Bolton for his thoughts on an hour-long press conference Trump gave from Mar-a-Lago earlier in the day in which he ripped Democrats and the media and challenged Vice President Kamala Harris to three debates.

Bolton predicted Trump is readying up excuses for a 2024 loss before Collins asked him about comments the former president made in which he said he had previously been “protective” of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton .

“Something else that happened today in this very lengthy press conference, something that we’re going to show you what Trump said today, and then show you what actually happened,” Collins said.

She aired a clip from Trump’s Thursday presser in which he said of Clinton, “I was very protective of her. Nobody would understand that, but I was I think my people understand it. They used to say, ‘Lock her up, lock her up,’ but I’d say just, ‘Relax, please.'”

Collins then aired a number of clips of Trump hitting his 2016 rival in the weeks and days leading up to that election.

“Folks honestly, she’s guilty as hell,” Trump said in one clip while in another he uttered, “I think she should be in jail. She should be locked up.” Bolton responded:

Trump can’t tell the difference between what’s true and what’s false. It’s not that he lies a lot because two to lie, you have to do it consciously. He just can’t tell the difference. So he makes up what he wants to say at any given time. If it happens to comport with what everybody else sees. Well, that’s fine. And if it doesn’t comport with anybody else, he doesn’t really care and he’s had decades of getting away with it. So in his mind, the truth is whatever he wants it to be. And that’s what you heard today yeah.
