Billionaire X owner Elon Musk and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling were both named in a “cyber harassment” complaint this week filed by Algerian boxer Imane Khelif .

According to Variety , Musk and Rowling were named in a French lawsuit which complained about “acts of aggravated cyber harassment” after Khelif received a wave of abuse on social media due to misinformation about her gender.

Musk and Rowling were among those who accused Khelif – who was born female – of being a man after her Paris Olympics boxing match against Italian boxer Angela Carini ended in Carini’s withdrawal after just 46 seconds.

Following the match, Musk endorsed a post which said “men don’t belong in women’s sports,” while Rowling tweeted , “Could any picture sum up our new men’s rights movement better? The smirk of a male who’s knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered.”

Variety reported that the lawsuit was filed “against X, which under French law means that it was filed against unknown persons.” This gives prosecutors the ability “to investigate against all people” who may have taken part in the “cyber harassment,” including posting “hateful messages under pseudonyms.”

Khelif’s attorney Nabil Boudi pointed to Musk and Rowling, as well as former President Donald Trump , whom he said would also “inevitably be looked into as part of the prosecution” for calling Khelif a man.
