Ex-UK Prime Minister Storms Off-Stage During Pro-Trump Speech After Lettuce Banner Prank

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss stormed off stage during a book promotion event after being trolled by a banner featuring a lettuce with googly eyes and the phrase “I crashed the economy.”

The incident occurred as Truss was expressing her support for former President Donald Trump , stating, “I support Trump and I want him to win… I think the average American is not doing well… So I think that he will probably win.”

Mid-speech, the banner, produced by the political campaign group Led By Donkeys, unfurled from the ceiling. It went initially unnoticed by Truss. After catching sight of it, Truss simply remarked “that’s not funny” before rushing off the stage.

The banner was a nod to the infamous 2022 challenge by the Daily Star tabloid to see if Truss’ tenure as prime minister could outlast the shelf life of a head of iceberg lettuce. Truss resigned after just 49 days, with the lettuce emerging victorious.

Truss boasts the shortest prime ministerial tenure in the country’s history, during which she tanked the UK economy with a disastrous mini budget, costing stock markets an estimated $500 billion and spiked interest rates in a way that is still being felt by working families.

Led By Donkeys quickly took credit for the stunt, sharing a video on social media with the caption: “Liz Truss is on a pro-Trump speaking tour. So we dropped a strategically-positioned remote-controlled lettuce banner.” The group is known for its satirical and provocative protest actions.
