JUST IN: ‘Veep’ Star Julia Louis-Dreyfus to Host Panel of Female Democratic Governors at DNC

Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus is scheduled to host a panel of female Democratic governors at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) for a discussion on women’s issues next week.

Louis-Dreyfus – who played the fictional Vice President Selina Meyer on Veep between 2012 and 2019 – will appear alongside all eight female Democratic governors at the convention, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer , Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs , and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul .

In the actress’ show Veep – which numerous commentators viewed as eerily mirroring Vice President Kamala Harris’ own ascension to the Democratic nomination this year – Louis-Dreyfus served as the first female vice president before later becoming president after the sitting president abruptly resigned.

CNN entertainment correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister reported on Wednesday, “I have confirmed with the actress’ publicist that she is going to be hosting a panel with the eight female Democratic governors in this country. On the panel, Julia Louis-Dreyfus hopes to shine a light on these female leaders and also on women’s issues.”

Wagmeister noted that “reproductive rights” would “likely be one of the topics that comes up on this panel,” and that Louis-Dreyfus had “a long history with the Biden-Harris administration and a long history supporting Democratic candidates.”

Louis-Dreyfus spoke at the DNC in 2020 and appeared in a comedy sketch with then-Vice President Joe Biden at the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2014.

In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter , the actress said, “Throughout their time in office, Democratic women governors have made history, changed the conversation surrounding women and in executive roles, and gotten big things done for the good people of their states. They’ve shattered marble ceilings and demonstrated excellent leadership. Their voices are essential.”
