Frank Luntz Wonders Aloud If Trump ‘Wants To Lose,’ Declares ‘No Sane Person’ Would Run His Campaign

Pollster Frank Luntz wondered aloud on Thursday where Donald Trump is deliberately trying to lose the presidential election as “no sane person” would campaign the way he is.

Luntz joined Morning Joe after conducting a focus group with voters who did not previously support President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign but now support Vice President Kamala Harris. As Luntz and others has noted, Harris has seen a significant jump in the polls since moving to the top of the ticket, reenergizing many voters.

Luntz also chalked up her wins to voters being “tired” of Trump’s personality.

“[They are] tired of Trump’s abuse and personality,” Luntz said, adding there is an eagerness for a “return to normalcy.”

On key issues like inflation and immigration, the longtime pollster said, Trump has an advantage, but that may not be enough to overcome personality where Harris has a “tremendous advantage.”

Luntz wondered if Trump is purposefully tanking his campaign as he’s only leaning into the personality traits that appear to turn voters off.

“On these personality traits, Harris has a tremendous advantage over Trump and there are people who had voted for Trump in 2020 that will not vote for him again because they are tired of his rude and abusive behavior. He is literally losing this election and I’m starting to wonder, does he want to lose?” he said. “Is this something that’s going on inside his head simple because he doesn’t want to be president for four more years because no sane person would campaign the way Donald Trump is campaigning.”
