‘SCARY!’ Bar Rescue’s Jon Taffer Shreds Kamala Harris ‘Price Gouging’ Proposal

Bar Rescue host Jon Taffer shredded Vice President Kamala Harris’s economic proposals for the food industry, arguing the only way to full implement her plan is to completely dump the free market.

Taffer joined Fox News’ Neil Cavuto following Harris making her economic pitch on Friday. In her North Carolina speech, Harris partially blamed inflation woes on companies “exploiting crises” and raising costs. She proposed a federal ban on food “price gouging.”

Taffer joined other critics in accusing Harris of proposing price controls that are not practical, especially in the food industry.

“Think of a shrimp. The fisherman needs to keep his costs the same. His gas costs can’t go up, his maintenance can’t go up. Then the processing plant, they’re prices can’t go up,” Taffer told Cavuto. “Then the distributor’s price can’t go up. Then the company that retails it can’t go up. Then when a restaurant gets it, his prices can’t go up. If anything loses control along the way, the guys on the backend of the chain lose money.”

The only way for the proposal to work is to set price limits across the board, Taffer added, but this leaves you in a socialist economic system.

“Unless you freeze every single cost of every single business in the country, you cannot cap some of them, and of course, Neil, if you were to do that then our free market economy is gone,” he said. “And that is socialism. And entrepreneurship disappears. My ability to innovate and create profits and add value to my customers so I can increase price, make my service better so I can increase prices, create better work environments so I can attract better employees — I can’t do any of those things anymore once this is put into place.”

Taffer noted the food industry is already in a shaky place, citing businesses like Red Lobster going bankrupt and Quiznos downsizing from thousands to hundreds of locations. Taffer called Harris’s economic proposal a “scary premise” for businesses.

“It freezes us where we are and I believe it stops any kind of growth that we could ever have,” he said.
