CNN Panelist Says Trump ‘Misses’ His ‘Odd Couple’ Pal Biden: ‘Some Definite Tenderness There’

New York Times reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro argued Donald Trump “misses” President Joe Biden and is lost on what to do without him in the race.

Garcia-Navarro was a panelist on Saturday for The Chris Wallace Show where CNN’s Chris Wallace noted that Trump seemed “off kilter” ever since Biden dropped his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris , who has gained on the former president in the polls .

“He is clearly upset. He keeps talking about the same things over and over again. He’s obsessed with Biden. He brings up Biden every opportunity he can. It’s kind of touching in a way. It’s like The Odd Couple ,” Garcia-Navarro said, referring to the 1968 comedy where Walter Matthau and and Jack Lemmon play mismatched roommates.

At a press conference in New Jersey this week, Trump accused Democrats of staging a “coup” to remove Biden from the top of the party’s ticket. The former president claimed Biden wasn’t “radical left” like Harris and joked he should have gone easier on him in their CNN debate .

“He misses him. There’s some definite tenderness there, I think,” Garcia-Navarro said.

She argued that the return of advisor Corey Lewandowski to Trump’s campaign likely signals there will be more of an effort to simply let Trump be Trump.

“I think we’re going to see a push to let Trump be Trump, which is the whole idea that this is someone who cannot be corralled and he has expanded the Republican Party, he has brought more people into the party, he has fundamentally changed it, and he’s done that by being himself,” she said.
