Chris Cuomo Says We Need ‘Better People’ In Politics After Kamala Harris Mispronounces Her Own Plan

NewsNation host Chris Cuomo hit Vice President Kamala Harris Friday night just hours after she committed a gaffe while laying out her economic plan in a pitch to voters in North Carolina.

Harris blamed inflation partially on corporate greed while accusing major food suppliers of price gouging. In one moment during her remarks, Harris committed a gaffe when she accused big business of “price gauging.”

“I will work to past the first-ever federal ban on price gauging on food,” the Vice President said during a speech in which she also proposed expanded tax credits and down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers.

On his show on Friday, Cuomo aired a clip of the gaffe and made a note of it before he said American voters need more “talent” in candidates to run for office. Cuomo said:

So, price gauging versus gouging, she made a mistake. We noted it. Second, going after corporations is popular. Doing it about inflation is popular. 60 percent of us believe corporations are to blame for it. The question is, what do you do, right? blame versus change. So Harris says she’s targeting price gouging. I don’t really care about gouging, gauging. I don’t care, alright? You got to take the level of talent where you find it. We don’t have great talent in our politics right now. We got to wait for better people to want to get involved in what is such a poison process. But this is who we got.

During her remarks on Friday in North Carolina, Harris sparked controversy with her suggestion that corporate greed has played a role in record-high food prices that are squeezing Americans at grocery stores.

The Washington Post editorial board concluded of Harris’s remarks, “Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech Friday was an opportunity to get specific with voters about how a Harris presidency would manage an economy that many feel is not working well for them. Unfortunately, instead of delivering a substantial plan, she squandered the moment on populist gimmicks.
