‘He Literally Saved Our Democracy!’ Psaki And Klobuchar Rave Over ‘Tears Of Joy’ Biden Will Draw With DNC Speech Monday

Minnesota Democrat Sen. Amy Klobuchar joined many other Democrats taking to MSNBC over the last week to shower President Joe Biden with praise ahead of his speech at the party’s convention in Chicago this week, crediting him with having “literally” saved democracy.

“Everyone’s just going to want to give him a big hug,” she said.

Klobuchar spoke with MSNBC host and former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki on Sunday about how the president’s speech will be received at the convention that would have been his reelection nomination acceptance if he hadn’t dropped out under pressure from the very party he is to address.

Psaki asked the Democratic Senator, who chaired Biden’s inauguration in 2020, to talk about Monday night’s speech, saying the convention isn’t just about Vice President Kamala Harris but also, “about honoring the legacy of Joe Biden, his presidency, his commitment to public service.”

“There is going to be so much love for Joe Biden. There’s going to be tears of joy when he walks into that hall,” Klobuchar said. “I love that major focus of this is going to be on democracy. He literally saved our democracy in the U.S.”

Klobuchar said Biden will talk Monday “about that democracy that he has upheld” and that, afterward, “everyone’s just going to want to give him a big hug.”

On Saturday, Rep. Eric Swalwell had even more effusive praise for Biden, saying that America’s children will “drive on roads he built” and “ power their devices with chips that he manufactured ,” and adding that Biden will “will go on the Democratic Mount Rushmore .”

PSAKI : Let me ask you about President Biden, because this convention is, of course, about the top of the ticket. It’s also about honoring the legacy of Joe Biden, his presidency, his commitment to public service. You’ve known him a long time. You’ve worked closely with him. I wanted to ask you about what do you think the hall is going to be like tomorrow night when he speaks?

KLOBUCHAR : There is going to be so much love for Joe Biden. There’s going to be tears of joy when he walks into that hall. And, what he has done. And I love that major focus of this is going to be on democracy. He literally saved our democracy in the U.S. He beat Donald Trump.

He was sworn in, as you know, I was there. Roy Blunt and I chaired that inauguration and there were some people saying, put it in a bunker after the insurrection. And Joe Biden says, no, we’re going to be out there on that platform that they first invaded. We don’t care if we have windows that aren’t real or that we have to spray paint the pillars. We’re going to be out there. We’re going to take back that platform.

So on Monday night, you’re going to hear him talk about that democracy that he has upheld. He’s upheld it with voting rights. He’s upheld it with his fight to save Ukraine and to stand up for democracy. He has fought for it with how he has done things for the people, which is a theme of that night. And I just think you’re going to, everyone’s just going to want to give him a big hug. And I think, I can’t wait to hear his speech.

PSAKI : He’s going to be hugging a lot of people. I think I heard that staff are coming in ..

KLOBUCHAR : Well he always does!

PSAKI : Alumni are coming in. Of course!
