Democratic Chicago alderman Raymond Lopez criticized his party’s presumptive nominee Vice President Kamala Harris Sunday for declining to explain to Black and Hispanic voters in his city why migrants who entered the country illegally in recent years have, in their view, been prioritized over their communities.

On the eve of the kickoff of the Democratic National Convention in his city, Lopez said many blame Harris for the “migrant crisis” and said she might pay for it at the ballot box in November.

On America Reports on Fox News, network host Sandra Smith spoke to Lopez about the city, noting camera views of Chicago show a “polished” community prepared to hold a major political event .

“But when you’re on the ground there it is a completely, to your point, different story,” she said. “This migrant crisis is real and it is growing.”

Smith asked Lopez, “Raymond, I mean, how would you characterize the status of this crisis in that city today?”

Lopez responded by slamming his party leaders for appearing unified and said many voters in Chicago were less than pleased with Harris.

“Well, I think that our Democratic elite are doing a fine job trying to portray the entire party as being unified behind the vice president,” he said. “But I can tell you the rank and file, the the average Democratic homeowner, particularly within the African-American and Latino community, have many questions, particularly as it relates to the migrant crisis. Lopez concluded:

This is something that has burned both of those communities for different reasons. African Americans wanting to know why, when they needed investment dollars, there was no money to be had. But when the migrants came, $600 million this year alone appeared $1.3 billion in the year before. Latino voters in particular, many of those undocumented who were promised DACA and a path out of the shadows, wanting to know what happened to them as they see 8 million people claim asylum fraudulently in order to gain access to this country. Those two demographics are core Democratic Party demographics voting bases, and neither of them are getting answers from Kamala Harris right now, even though she was in charge of the border. And I don’t think that will be forgotten come November unless they come up with an answer as to why.
