OOPS! Democratic Platform Repeatedly Refers to President Biden’s ‘Second Term’

President Joe Biden’s eleventh-hour decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place has been the political story of this summer, but some at the Democratic National Committee haven’t caught on yet.

After the DNC released its party platform ahead of the first night of the Democratic National Convention on Monday, observers quickly picked up on the fact that it repeatedly refers to Biden’s “second term.”

“In President Biden’s second term, he will continue selecting judges who will protect
fundamental rights and who represent the diversity of the American experience,” reads the document in one instance.

“In President Biden’s second term, he will push Congress to pass legislation that is consistent
with our values as a nation,” it reads in another.

All told, there are 19 separate references to a second Biden term in the party platform, leading to some mockery on social media.

“Democrats didn’t even bother to update their platform to remove the DOZEN mentions of a Biden ‘second term.’ Zero daylight between Biden and Kamala!” declared the Trump campaign official account on X.

“Well they’re right — Harris would be Biden’s second term,” commented Marc Thiessen of The Washington Post and Fox News.

The DNC has noted that the current version of the platform referring to an unlikely second term for Biden was passed by committee on July 16, prior to Biden’s decision to step aside, although it’s unclear why it couldn’t have been amended after he dropped out less than a week later.
