Kara Swisher Slams DNC’s Anti-Trump ‘Lock Him Up’ Chant, But Says Let Hillary Clinton ‘Have It’

Pivot podcast co-host Kara Swisher called a “lock him up” chant that broke out at the Democratic National Convention during Hillary Clinton’s speech a “not tasteful” moment, but one that Clinton “deserves.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen her enjoy a moment as much as that moment,” CNN’s Dana Bash said on Tuesday after playing a clip of the Chicago crowd chanting “lock him up” as Clinton was blasting her former opponent Donald Trump . “Lock her up” chants were common at Trump rallies during the 2016 presidential election.

“You know what? Let’s give it to her because she deserves it,” Swisher said after watching Clinton nodding in approval at the chanting crowd.

The podcaster argued that Monday served as a “soft goodbye” to President Joe Biden and Clinton, and she doesn’t expect you’ll be hearing anything about the two for the rest of the convention as attention turns to Vice President Kamala Harris .

Swisher argued Clinton deserved the “not tasteful” moment because she’s “put up with a lot.”

“This was a goodbye to Hillary too. It’s a closing chapter on Biden, a closing chapter on Hillary, and a closing chapter on Trump, and that’s what Kamala Harris has to do here,” she said. “Even though she’s the incumbent, she doesn’t feel like the incumbent and Trump feels like the incumbent — let her have that. It’s not tasteful, but, you know, she’s put up with a lot.”

Pro-Trump CNN analyst David Urban similarly found no problem with the Clinton chant, saying, “Let her have her moment.”

“Let her have her moment, like, I don’t begrudge them the moment right?” he said .
