Fox Co-Hosts Turn Back the Clock with References to Obama’s Tan Suit and Birth Certificate: We’ll ‘Find Out What Really Happened’

Tuesday’s edition of The Five on Fox News featured throwback references to two “controversies” involving former President Barack Obama , who was slated to speak hours later at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Vice President Kamala Harris will be nominated for president and replace President Joe Biden , who spoke at the convention on Monday.

Kicking off a segment about Harris, co-host Greg Gutfeld referenced a 2014 press conference Obama gave about ISIS while sporting a tan suit. Republicans mustered so much outrage over the non-event at the time, that it has a Wikipedia page .

“Kamala has also been rocking an Obama-esque tan suit,” Gutfeld observed as a photo of Harris wearing the suit appeared on screen. “Delightful.”

Elsewhere in the program, co-host Jesse Watters rehashed a far more pernicious and persistent GOP talking point about Obama’s place of birth. Some conservatives claimed that the former president was illegitimate because, they falsely alleged, he was born in Kenya, and not Hawaii. One of the biggest purveyors of this lie was former President Donald Trump , who is the Republican presidential nominee once again.

“Barack Obama, still the godfather of this machine,” Watters alleged. “He gave us Joe Biden as VP. He gave us Hillary as secretary of State. Then he couped Joe, put all his boys with Kamala’s team, and had his wingman [Eric] Holder vet [Tim] Walz.”

Watters went on to claim that Obama will be pulling the strings in Democratic Party politics for the next quarter century.

“He’s definitely gonna interfere in this election,” he said. “That’s why we’ll be sending [my producer] Johnny to Hawaii to get the truth about the birth certificate. This time we will dig deep and find out what really happened.”

“You should tell Johnny that he needs to get a passport,” Gutfeld replied.

“To go to Kenya,” Watters responded.

“No, I meant to Hawaii just to see him do it,” Gutfeld said. “Ask him what the exchange rate is for the Hawaiian dollar.”
