J.B. Pritzker Boasts About Being a Billionaire During DNC Speech, Minutes After Bernie Sanders Rails Against ‘Billionaire Class’

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker boasted about being a billionaire at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Tuesday, just minutes after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) railed against the “billionaire class” in his speech.
“Donald Trump thinks that we should trust him on the economy because he claims to be very rich,” said Pritzker, who is the wealthiest politician in office in the United States with an estimated net worth of $3.5 billion. “But take it from an actual billionaire, Trump is rich in only one thing: stupidity.”
Pritzker’s remarks received cheers from the audience. However, just minutes prior, Sanders took aim at “the top 1%” and “the billionaire class” in his own speech.
“Too many of our fellow Americans are struggling every day to just get by, to put food on the table, to pay the rents, and to get the healthcare they need,” said Sanders in his speech. “Brothers and sisters, bottom line, we need an economy that works for all of us, not just the billionaire class!”
He continued, “When 60% of our people live paycheck to paycheck, the top 1% have never ever had it so good, and these oligarchs tells us we shouldn’t tax the rich?”
Sanders also took aim at former President Donald Trump , remarking, “At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, giving more tax breaks to billionaires is radical.”
CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings noted the irony of Prizker’s speech being scheduled directly after Sanders’ remarks
“They had Sanders out here trying to defenestrate all the billionaires, and it’s, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, here comes three-and-a-half billion dollars, J.B. Pritzker!'”
Jennings’ colleagues took a different position, arguing that Pritzker demonstrated that the Democrats were “a broad party,” and that he was different from other billionaires because he “understands what the proper role of government should be.”
“This is a party that has room for you,” said CNN senior political analyst Van Jones. “If you want government to be strong and good, if you want business to be strong and good, if you want the community to be strong and good, if you want strong and good, you’re welcome here.”
Jennings replied, “He [Sanders] literally doesn’t want the billionaires to exist though.”
