Michelle Obama Roasts Trump for ‘Failing Forward’ and Having ‘The Affirmative Action of Generational Wealth’

Former First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a rousing speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night, telling the crowd that former President Donald Trump has been “failing upward” thanks to “generational wealth.”

Trump is the son of the late wealthy real estate tycoon, Fred Trump .

This week, the convention is nominating Vice President Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid last month.

“Kamala Harris is more than ready for this moment,” Obama told the audience in Chicago. “She is one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency. And she is one of the most dignified.”

Obama then drew a contrast with former President Donald Trump , whom Harris will face in the general election.

“Kamala has shown her allegiance to this nation, not by spewing anger and bitterness, but by living a life of service and always pushing the doors of opportunity open to others,” she continued. “She understands that most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward. We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth.”

The last line sent the crowd into a roar of approval.

“If we bankrupt a business or choke in a crisis, we don’t get a second, third, or fourth chance,” she continued. “If things don’t go our way, we don’t have the luxury of whining or cheating others to get further ahead. No. We don’t get to change the rules so we always win. If we see a mountain in front of us we don’t expect there to be an escalator there to take us to the top. No. We put our heads down. We get to work. In America, we do something!”
